Competition Team Levels and Guidelines

Requirements for ENTRY Level Dancer 

(LIMITED COMMITMENT TEAM)

 

*All ENTRY level team members will be placed in a Combination Class during the regular dance season. They will take one of their three recital routines to one competition during the season

 

*All ENTRY level team members are required to take the Dynamic Development class during the month of July. (Meets once a week.)

 

*Mandatory participation; compete in 1 competition in April and participate in our 2023 recital Headliners.

*Optional participation in fall dance convention.

 

Competition Fees

*Competition entry fee for the entry level competition dancer is $70 per dancer. Competition fees are due the first Friday in January. ($35 photo/video fee may be tacked on depending on competition.)

 

Team Jacket, Bag and Costume Fees:

*Team Jacket- $80 (Due Aug. 1st)

*Team Backpack $55 (Due Aug. 1st)

*Costumes- See price list for combination class costumes.

 

Tuition: 

Tuition is due at the first class of every month. Entry level competition dancers are required to take their level combo class throughout the season. 

*One class per week $50.00 per month. 

 

Additional Fees:

*Required Summer Class- $55.00 (due at the end of June)

*Teachers may schedule extra practices when competition gets closer. These are $12 per hour.

*Headliner Fee- $55.00 (Due at the end of January)

*Please, keep in mind, traveling expenses for your family during competition season.

 

Requirements for PERFORMANCE Level Dancer (None or Limited competition experience)

 

*All performance level team members are required to take the 4 week, Dynamic Development class during the month of July. (Meets twice a week.)

*All performance level team members are required to take a Combination Class

and an additional class of their choice , per week, during the 2022-2023 season. (2 classes per week minimum)

*Required to participate in fall dance convention, compete in 2 competitions between Feb-April 2023 and participate in our 2023 recital Headliners.

 

Competition/Convention Fees:

 

*Dance Dynamics competition dancers will participate in one convention in the fall months. Convention ranges from $185-285. (Due September 1st)

*Competition entry fees for the performance dancer are $70 per dancer, per competition. All competition fees are due the first Friday in January.  ($35 photo/video fee may be tacked on depending on competition.) 

 

Studio Jacket/ Costume Fees:

Costumes, warm ups and jewelry are mandatory items for each competition team dancer.

*Team Jacket- $80 (Due Aug. 1st)

*Team Backpack $55 (Due Aug. 1st)

*Costumes- $60 (per costume) (Due at the end of Nov.)

Tuition is due at the first class of every month. Performance Level Dancers are required to take 2 classes per week, minimum. 

2 classes per week- $85.00, monthly

3 classes per week- $110.00, monthly

(any additional classes that are taken after 3 classes per week, $25.00 per class.)

*Sibling Discount is 10% off the monthly tuition total. 

 

Additional Fees:

*Required Summer Class- $165.00 (due at the end of June)

*Summer Choreography Sessions: $12.00 per hour (Session dates and fees will be given after auditions)

*Monthly Choreography meetings: $12:00 per hour ( we will meet at least once per month to review/clean and practice choreography. Dates and fees will be given at the end of summer sessions.) 

*Headliner Fee- $60.00 (Due at the end of January)

Requirements for INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED Level Dancer

 

*All Intermediate level team members are required to take the 4 week, Dynamic Development class during the month of July. (Meets twice a week.)

*All intermediate level team members are required to take a Combination Class , Technique class, and

an additional class of their choice, per week, during the 2022-2023  season. (3 classes per week minimum)

*Required to participate in fall dance convention, compete in 3 competitions between Feb-April 2023 and participate in our 2023 recital Headliners.

*If determined, required to participate in large group performances at competitions.

Audition Information:

ENTRY Level Auditions

 

Dancers age 7-10 years old with no competition experience. Audition clinics will be held for entry level auditions. Dancers will  learn jazz choreography at audition clinic and audition in small groups in front of 2 judges from outside of the studio on audition day.

 

Scoring: We will use the drop off method for scoring. When there is a gap in scoring, that’s where we will cut dancers.

 

 

 

Performance, Intermediate and Advanced Level Auditions

 

Available teams:

-Contemporary/Lyrical

-Tap

-Jazz

 

All performance, intermediate and advanced dancers will audition for each individual style (jazz, tap, contemporary/lyrical) at one time and will be divide into levels (performance, intermediate, advanced) by judges/scores. **Scoring and placement examples will be given to your dancer the week of auditions.

 

Dancers will learn choreography at audition clinics and audition in small groups in front of 2 judges from outside of the studio on audition day. 

 

 

***If you are auditioning for more than one style team, we assume that you can commit to those teams if you are selected. If you CANNOT commit to more than one style team, please DO NOT audition for numerous.*** EXAMPLE; do not try out for jazz and tap if you only intend to do one team throughout the season. Please keep in mind, if your dancer is selected for one of the above teams, they will be required to participate in a team large group/production.

ALL DANCERS WHO are selected for a contemporary or lyrical team MUST enroll and take a ballet class during the 2022-2023 season. 

 

ALL PERFORMANCE, INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED LEVEL COMPETITION TEAM MEMBERS WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO AUDITION FOR SOLO/DUO/TRIOS. Auditions will be held in May of 2022. 

LEVEL Placement Guidelines:

Technique:

-Knowledge of fundamental body lines and importance of pointing feet 

-Knowledge of basic body and spacial awareness

-Knowledge of difference between working in parallel and turned out

-Working on flexibility

 

Performance Mastered Skills:

-Single pirouette with proper technique (spotting, connecting passé, relevé)

-Left and right splits (all the way to floor or almost there)

-Right and left grand jeté or saut de chat with chassé

-Battements (right and left)

-Chassé

-Chaîné and piqué turns (right and left)

 

**Performance Qualities:**

-Solid memory 

-Working on confidence

-Working on showmanship and expressions

-Working on energy

 

Intermediate Placement Guidelines:

Technique:

-Definite understanding of fundamental body lines (Stretching backs of knees, upper body alignment, sickling feet, etc.)

-Definite understanding of pointing feet

-Definite understanding of body awareness, using proper muscles to execute skills and choreography.

-Definite understanding and execution of spacial awareness.

-Knowledge and understanding the difference between working in parallel and turned out.

-Definite understanding of flexibility and importance.

-Mastered spotting in turns.

-Understanding of weight change and using plié.

 

Skills:

Turns:

-Single pirouette (spotting, connecting passé, high relevé w/ clean lines)

-Double pirouette (spotting, connecting passé, high relevé in BOTH turns w/ clean lines)

-Coupé turns (spotting, connecting coupé, high relevé in all turns w/ clean lines)

-Chaîné turns (high relevé and clear spot)

-Piqué turns (single and double)

-Clean sequence of two fouetté turns à la second (proper leg placement and tempo) with chaîné out.

 

Leaps/Jumps:

-Right and left grand jété or saut de chat with chassé

-Calypso leaps, right and left

-Grand jeté or saute de chat à la second (center leap) right and left

-Tilt jumps, right and left

-Fire bird jump, right and left

* Intermediates have knowledge of elevation, flexibility, and strength in all leaps and jumps.

 

Other:

-Right and left splits (all the way to the floor)

-Battements (right, left and fans)

-Chassés

-Leg extensions and holds while holding with hand, displaying flexibility

Advanced Placement Guidelines:

Technique:

-Definite execution of fundamental body lines. (Stretching backs of knees, upper body alignment, sickling feet, etc.)

-Definite execution of pointing feet without being reminded.

-Definite understanding and execution of body awareness, using proper muscles to execute skills and choreography.

-Definite understanding and execution of spacial awareness.

-Definite understanding of working in parallel and turned out and can switch between with no problems.

-Definite understanding and execution of flexibility.

-Mastered spotting in turns and turn sequences.

-Understanding of and execution of weight changes and using plié.

-Strong porte de bras.

-Ease of performance. 

 

Skills:

Turns:

-Double pirouette (spotting, connecting passé, high relevé w/ clean lines) with chaîné out. 

-Triple pirouette (spotting, connecting passé, high relevé in all turns w/ clean lines) with chaîné out.

-Coupé turns (spotting, connecting coupé, high relevé in all turns w/ clean lines)

-Pirouette sequence- Double passé to double coupé sequence (spotting, connecting passé AND coupé, high relevé in all turns w/   clean lines)

-Clean sequence of 4 fouetté turns à la second (proper leg position in second and tempo)

-Clean changing spot fouetté turns à la second (proper leg position in second and tempo)

-Pique turns (double/triple) turned out and parallel 

-Front and back attitude turns (with proper knee and foot placement)

-Pencil turns (double/triple)

 

Leaps/Jumps: 

-Right and left grand jété or saut de chat with chassé and/or run,run

-Switching right and left grand jété or saut de chat with chassé and/or run,run

-Calypso leaps, right and left

-Grand jetè or saut de chat à la seconde (center leap), right and left

-Switching grande jeté or saut de chat à la second (center leap)

-Tilt jumps, right and left

-Switching tilt and arabesque jumps

-Fire bird jumps, right and left

*Advanced dancers have solid elevation, flexibility and strength in all leaps and jumps.

-Leg extensions and holds displaying flexibility without holding with hand.
